For the past six year, as the retired SELPA Director, Steve has coordinated the CCEIS efforts for the West Contra Costa Unified School District by being part of the leadership team and writing key parts of the last three plans required to be written – Initiatives, Policies, Procedures and Practices, Identifying the root causes and writing the plan activities. He worked with each member of the Leadership Team supporting their efforts in gathering data for each of the CIM plans as well as the completion of the quarterly Progress Reports. He provided leadership in the development of a Tiered Behavior Matrix to reduce suspensions of African American Students. The development of the Behavior Matrix required collaboration between the superintendent and site administrative representatives to be sure there was a commitment to implement the matrix to increase the use of alternatives to out of school suspension strategies across the district. He has worked with CIM leadership teams in reviewing the Policies, Practices and Procedures (PPP) of the districts and completing the PPP Matrix. In addition, he has conducted empathy interviews and attended Leadership and Partner Meetings providing input and sharing the information from the empathy Interviews. He has had a great deal of training to enhance his skills and knowledge to support equitable access and opportunity for all students. He has had the opportunity to take numerous staff development training in the area of Cultural Responsiveness, Multi-Tiered System of Support and Social Emotional Learning.
