Jean Robertson

Jean Robertson is a passionate educational leader committed to the success of children through a ‘student first’ approach. She ensures authentic collaboration with families and school communities, with a focus on student outcomes. Her work is anchored in equity and inclusion and has transformed and strengthened learning environments, inspiring lasting growth across classrooms, schools, and districts.

Jean retired in 2024, after serving thirty-six years in San Francisco as a teacher, site principal, union president, and the San Francisco Unified School District’s Chief of Special Education Services, as well as the Special Education Local Plan Area (SELPA) Director for San Francisco County. She has experience in serving infants through transition age programs, curriculum development and rollout, design and implementation of strategic planning, cycles of inquiry, professional development, and alternate dispute resolution, to name a few highlights of her work.

Jean served on the board of Access Institute, a no-fee psychological services non-profit in San Francisco, providing therapy to those seeking psychological support, but aren’t able to access it for any number of reasons. Another notable project was representing SFUSD and creating a team to support Stanford University’s research in the pursuit of a Spencer Vision Grant. In her final years in SFUSD, Jean collaborated and partnered with UCSF’s Dyslexia Center in the development of Multitudes. Multitudes provides early, universal screening for reading difficulties, including dyslexia, in kindergarten through second-grade students.

Her recent work includes serving as a Technical Assistance Facilitator on the State Performance Plan Technical Assistance Project (SPP-TAP), where she collaborated with local education agencies (LEAs) to address disproportionality and significant disproportionality. Jean is an experienced facilitator and has presented nationwide at relevant conferences. Jean continues to champion families and those seeking support in addressing children’s needs.
